Warri Wolves have defeated a team in their own home in the CAF Confederations Cup. Warri Wolves, recorded an away victory Saturday, as Abu Azeez 84th minute goal was enough to sink host, Racing De Bobo in Bobo Dioulasso, Burkina Faso.
Azzez’s lone strike came off a corner kick by Ibenegbu Ikechukwu. The match was keenly contested, until substitute Azeez struck after replacing Okafor Onyekachi in the 75th minute.
The centre referee, Ibrahim Mamane from Niger Republic had earlier disallowed a goal scored by Ibenegbu Ikechukwu, even though the first linesman did not raise flag.
Wolves departed Bobo Dioulasso immediately after the game.
The team was made up of 16 players and eight officials, was airlifted by Ivorian Air Friday morning from Lagos to Ouagadougou, after a stop over in Abidjan.
Those who featured for Wolves in friday’s game in Bobo Dioulasso were Okiemute Odah, Onomado Goodluck, Joseph Eyimofe, Osagie Monday, Semiu Liadi, Akpojuvwevwo Bright, Uruemu Egbeta, Ibenegbu, Joseph Osadiaye, Dimgba Stanley and Onyekachi Okafor.
The Club Media Officer, Moses Etu told Biafra 24 shortly after the match that it was a hard-earned victory, adding that the home team gave them great challenge.
He revealed that Wolves was made to cater for their feeding in accordance with new CAF’s rule, but lamented that the rule was not made known to them before they jetted out.
The return leg comes up on in the first week of March at the Warri City Stadium.
