In a bid to make life more meaningful to the rural communities, the people of Enugu Ezike residing in the United States of America, USA, are to float a health fund aimed at addressing the ‘’basic medical needs’’ of their kith and kin back home in Enugu State.
The launch is to coincide with their 2nd Annual Convention in New York City, USA, starting from July 16 to July 18, 2015.
Already, eminent personalities from across the globe have been invited to grace the occasion which would witness cultural shows that depict the uniqueness of the people of Enugu Ezike, popularly known as Ezike Oba.
In an email to South East Voice on the preparations for the convention, the President of the Enugu Ezike people in USA, Prince Linus Eze said, ‘’We are a non-profit volunteer based organization. We foster a positive environment for our members. Our membership comprises of people origina-ting from the four old autonomous communities of Umuitodo, Ozzi, Esodo and Ezeodo residing in the USA; conscious of the uniqueness of our culture, but appreciative of the diverse cultural values and orientation inherent in the US to which our culture shall be subsumed as may be practically feasible and out of relative obscurity to discover our destiny and fulfil our mission under brotherhood, unionism, compromise, rectitude and in pursuance of selfless service for the common good of our people in the United States and in Enugu Ezike.
‘’Furthermore, it is with great pleasure that we would like to extend the invitation to all Enugu Ezike in Diaspora to join our fabulous convention. We would like to use our event to bring the spotlight on the Basic medical need of families in Enugu Ezike. Our members and our friends in the United States particularly those interested in the economy of health care delivery. We will launch our health care campaign immediately following the New York Convention. As a matter of fact, the arrangements for the convention have been completed and all are invited.’’
Enugu Ezike which now comprises of 36 autonomous communities in Enugu State is known for its unique culture, dialect and gerontocracy. Although, split into several autonomous communities, the people still have one revered spiritual and political head known as Onyishi Enugu Ezike, who administers the other communities through their own respective Onyishis.
