A multiple accident along the Benin-Asaba expressway have claimed six lives. The accident, which occurred at Okhuahie River Bridge, in the Benin axis involved two trailers. One of the trailers was said to belong to Dangote haulage company.
According to Biafra24 findings, a lawyer, a retired police officer who is now avcommunity chief, another passenger and three passengers of one of the trucks died in the crash. Only one passenger from the truck survived, and is allegedly in the custody of the police in Benin. The SUV Lexus according to our correspondent, was heading to Asaba, Delta State capital to appear for a land dispute case when the accident happened. The passengers had left Warri, and picked the lawyer at his Sakponba Road office in Benin for the appearance in court. Eye witnesses told newsmen that the accident took place after one of the trailers knocked the Jeep off the road, a situation which forced it to hit against the second truck, before both crashed into the Okuahie river. Edo Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Familoni Oluwasusi, who confirmed the incident, said the dead victims were taken to Our Clinic Hospital at Oregbeni, Ramat Park, Benin City. He said properties of the victims were removed by the police and the obstruction cleared to allow free flow of traffic.
