Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Thursday an agreement on the conflict in eastern Ukraine within the framework of the talks in Minsk, which includes a ceasefire which will take effect Sunday and the withdrawal of heavy weapons .
Speaking to the press after nearly 16 hours of talks in the Belarusian capital, the Russian president said they have achieved “agreed the main issues” and specified that the cessation of hostilities came into force on Sunday.
Meanwhile, French President François Hollande, said it has reached a comprehensive agreement that includes a ceasefire and a political agreement to end the crisis in Ukraine. Hollande said that there are many issues to deal with but that the agreement will help to improve the situation in the country.
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko, said the ceasefire will begin at midnight on February 15 and the withdrawal of heavy weapons will begin two days later. It also said it has agreed to release all the “hostages” during the next 19 days, including the Ukrainian military pilot Nadia Savixenko.
