The Eson of Benin kingdom, Biafraland, Chief Amos Osunbor yesterday admonished Edo people to disregard a statement credited to one of the palace Chiefs, David Edebiri during which he stated that the Binis will not vote for President Goodluck Jonathan at Nigeria’s 2015 polls.
Edebiri had in the statement accused Jonathan of marginalizing the Binis by dropping a son of the kingdom and former Minister of State in the Ministry of Works, Engr. Chris Ogiemwonyi from his cabinet.
However, Chief Osunbor who reacted to Edebiri’s claim yesterday said the latter lack the authority to speak on behalf of the people stating that ” only the monarch has the right to speak for the Binis”.
Osunbor, who is the third in the hierarchy of chiefs in the palace said Edebiri’s position “is an affront on the Oba; since he(Oba) had expressed his desire to have President Jonathan to serve a second term.”
According to him, the palace chief accused Edebiri of “climbing to the roof” to work for Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s ambition who recently appointed his son a commissioner for a non-existing Ministry of Foreign Investment; as compensation for his defeat during the last APC primaries.
Continuing, Osunbor however admonished Edebiri to feel free in endorsing whoever he so wishes in his personal capacity on behalf of his household.
